ESG’s support of the USAID’s Power Sector Improvement Activity (PSIA) in Pakistan now includes work with electric vehicles (EVs). Recently, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Geoffrey Pyatt, announced a grant to establish an e-mobility research and development center through USAID’s PSIA at the Lahore University for Management Sciences (LUMS).

The e-mobility research and development center will establish EV standards, help develop the necessary EV manufacturing value chains, promote private sector participation in the EV market, conduct research in new EV applications, products and services, and conduct pilot field trials of suitable EV platforms and systems.

After the grant was announced, Assistant Secretary Pyatt toured the current LUMS EV lab – the location of the future LUMS e-mobility center – and test drove a LUMS pilot electric 3-wheeler.
